Two weeks ago, the dentist gave my teeth a deep cleaning. It hurt a little bit, but it helped to improve my oral health. The hygienist told me to come back for cleanings every three months, so I can maintain my teeth and have a beautiful smile instead of a frown when I go back to teach my high schoolers.
I love my students, but sometimes they can be a handful. So hands-on activities are super important and helpful for my classroom teaching. A few days ago, I designed an interesting ice-breaker game on the topic of names. It starts with a gallery walk with 15 inspirational quotes about names. Students can walk around the classroom and talk about their thoughts and feelings about these quotes. This activity offers two different ways for you to conduct the follow-up activities. You can either have students interview each other about their names or talk to each other in a game after the gallery walk. Finally, students will write a short essay about their names and think about their culture and identity.
I can't wait to see my students' reaction to this game and I hope it will bring a start my teaching off well this year!
Finally, I want to share one of my pieces of artwork based on Bible verses about love. (See above.) For me, teaching is about love -- to love my students unconditionally.
