我的故事 My Story
I grew up in Shanghai, a vital city in China that combines the beauty of Western and Eastern culture. my father is a professor who teaches at a university. However, in my eyes, her father is a storyteller who makes stories come alive in a dramatic and interesting way.
Influenced by my father's passion, I started to make up stories when she was in elementary school. When I lined up with my friends on the playground, I took out a piece of paper from my pocket, and said that it was my ticket to the circus that night on the roof of my home. When I invited her friends to see the show with me, they all laughed at my craziness. In the end, I and my imaginary pet kitten went together. I was amazed by a clown juggling five balls without dropping them. I screamed when I saw a lion breathe fire. I ran back to my bedroom with the kitten when a tiger came out of its cage. All of these awesome scenes were performed in the sky before my unique, storytelling eyes...
At the beginning of my journey, I had trouble sharing her passion with people. But, I did not give it up because I knew that the magic of a story could make a difference in life. So I keep my dream and believe in it. Luckily, the day I entered my classroom, I have restored the power of storytelling by the laughter, the joy, the curiosity and the love from my students and my own son.
Here is some of my experience with teaching:
I teach Chinese to 9th through 12th grade in a Long Island school district. Prior to that, I was a third grade dual Language teacher in a New York City public school. I also served as a writing club facilitator for the New York City Writing Project program and a bilingual coach for Teachers College, Columbia University. I also has taught in Chinese immersion programs for private schools in New York City.
During my free time, I love to travel, dream and write. I started to create my store which is based on my son's Chinese name in 2018. He is my inspiration and motivation for the store and I want to give 10% my profits from the store to a children's charity.
